Pimples all over your face are uncomfortable. Many teenagers and young adults are familiar with the problem. But acne can be treated. Acne is an inflammation of the sebum follicles, which often begins in puberty and mainly affects the face, back and chest / décolleté. In the industrialized nations, 80% of all young people suffer from acne of various types. Boys and girls are equally affected.
The causes are an overactivity of the sebum glands with increased sebum production, a sebum flow disorder due to severe keratinization of the pores combined with an increase in acne bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes).
The consequences are "oily skin" and an incorrect colonization of the skin with bacteria. This creates annoying blackheads (comedones) and pimples (papules, pustules). Since the patient's level of suffering is understandably high and untreated acne can lead to long-term effects such as scarring, rapid, symptom-oriented and professional treatment makes sense.
Typical acne symptoms
- Blackheads (comedones)
- Pimples (papules and pustules, pus-filled blisters)
- Scars as a late effect
- oily skin
In most cases, acne is a visual diagnosis that can be made quickly by the dermatologist. In addition, favorable factors and influences are determined in a personal conversation. In the case of very severe and therapy-resistant forms of acne, other diseases (mostly hormonal) must be excluded in blood or tissue tests.
Incorrect (often too "oily") skin care can trigger or aggravate acne. We will work with yout to find the right skin care product for you. Some foods with a high sugar content and dairy products also play a role in the development of acne and should be avoided as far as possible as a preventative measure.
Medical therapy for acne
What helps with pimples? Patients with acne want their skin to improve quickly and significantly. We combine various pillars of the latest therapy to help you achieve healthy skin as quickly as possible. An adapted therapy shortens and alleviates the course of the disease and prevents scarring.
In mild cases, acne can be effectively treated with local therapy. There are several preparations available for this, from which we select the product that is suitable for you. Optimization of skin care is the top priority. In the case of severe acne, it can be useful and necessary in individual cases to take medication for a certain period of time, which either eliminate the bacterial overgrowth or inhibits sebum production.
We are also happy to advise and therapeutically assist you with other acne-like diseases such as Mallorca acne, which is often triggered by prolonged exposure to the sun or baby acne that often occurs in the first few weeks of life.
In addition, we offer professional cleansing (such as fruit acid peeling and hydrafacial) in our practice. We would be happy to advise you on this in a personal meeting.
Should acne scars remain after healing, we can successfully treat them through various measures, e.g. with peelings, cortisone injections or laser therapy.
